We forget where our wins come from.
We gain speed and momentum and we think we are providing the torque.
We advance, or our efforts succeed, and our pride swells and settles and steals God's glory.

We forget where our wins come from.

And God (through His Word) reminds us today:

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  ~Zechariah 4:6

Zing!!

God is first, and God is fierce, and (still), we forget Him sometimes.  We elevate ourselves and we claim the prizes in our victories.  But (Spoiler-alert!!) God gets all the glory because He is the author and the hero of our story.

For real.

It is not by our might, or in our own might that we progress or attain success.  It is only by the Lord and His Spirit.  Only.

And power?  Even the sheer word forces us to remember and realize that we hold no power, only the Lord Almighty holds power, and He gives it through His Spirit.

And so sometimes we receive the accolades (and we love it).  Or we pull-off the big event (and we are so proud of it).  Or we/our kids/our team/our work--recieve awards or get noticed...and we feel honored (and powerful).

But..in doing so, (and in not acknowledging God's foundation of these happenings) we are forgetting where our wins come from.

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  ~Zechariah 4:6

Sometimes we need to come down off of our high horse and give God credit and give God the glory.  It is His in the first place, and He should be in first place in our lives and hearts.  It's all Him, and not us.

But sometimes it is not pride that gets in our way, it is a lack of pride, self-confidence, and worth.

Our low self-esteem and broken spirit can separate us from all that God is doing and wants for us.  But the Lord speaks lovingly to us today: Look up, Child.  It is not in your strength, but Mine.

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  ~Zechariah 4:6

We may not have the might or power today...and we don't need it.  Because all that we need is all that God gives us: Himself, in the form of His Spirit.

“All this I have spoken while still with you. (26) But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (27) Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  ~John 14:25-27

Friends, we have His Spirit today, and that means that we have all that we need. Our might and power will not conquer anything today, but His Spirit will accomplish things we didn't know were possible.

Friends, people without God's Spirit place/force/prostitute themselves into trusting in the power and might of many things and institutions. But Zechariah 4:6 reminds us today that only one thing is needed: God's Spirit.
That is what we place our hope and trust in today. Only one thing is needed.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  ~Zechariah 4:6

Can we lay it down today?
Our pride?
...Or our insecurities?
(Both ends of the spectrum will distract our allegiance to the Lord.)

Will we lay it all down today?

We sure can, and the Lord is (not only) inviting us to, He is assuring us of His power and might.
We will not overcome in anyone or anything else's power and might, but we will overcome by the Spirit of the Lord Almighty.

Let's trust Him today, Friends.  And let's welcome His Spirit into our heart and situation.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  ~Zechariah 4:6
