"Your ancestors refused to listen to this message. They stubbornly turned away and put their fingers in their ears to keep from hearing. (12) They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the instructions or the messages that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had sent them by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. That is why the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was so angry with them. ~Zechariah 7:11-14
It's NOT us, Father!
We love you with all our heart and soul and strength today!
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” ~Luke 10:27
Although we are sinful and imperfect at times, we can truly declare that our heart's desire is FOR YOU, Father!
Serious consequences for serious offenses to God.
“Since they refused to listen when I called to them, I would not listen when they called to me, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. ~Zechariah 7:12
As with a whirlwind, I scattered them among the distant nations, where they lived as strangers. Their land became so desolate that no one even traveled through it. ~Zechariah 7:14
God's people refused to listen and they stubbornly turned away from Him...and so (then) did God (refuse to listen) and He stepped back from them.
Zechariah Chapter 7 is true, and it is frightening. BUT--if it is true (not listening/obeying brings separation from God).
Then--could the opposite ALSO be true?
Could the opposite (of bad) be true for us?
It's too good to be true!
"Your ancestors refused to listen to this message. ~Zechariah 7:11
What if we listen today, Brothers and Sisters in Christ? Then, the opposite of bad is true for us in Christ. It's too good to be true!

They stubbornly turned away and put their fingers in their ears to keep from hearing. ~Zechariah 7:11
What if we are teachable (and not stubborn)? What if we do not turn away or put our fingers in our ears to keep from hearing Him? What if we LISTEN to the Lord? Then, the opposite of negative consequences is true for us in Christ. It's too good to be true!

They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the instructions or the messages that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had sent them by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. ~Zechariah 7:12
What if we are soft-hearted toward God today? (And not with hearts as hard as stone). Then, the opposite of negative consequences is true for us in Christ. It's too good to be true!

That is why the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was so angry with them. ~Zechariah 7:12
If God gets angry when we do not listen/follow/obey/honor Him...then what about when we do? It's too good to be true!

“Since they refused to listen when I called to them, I would not listen when they called to me, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. ~Zechariah 7:13
The opposite of this is also true!! It's too good to be true! If we will listen to God when He calls to us, then He will listen to us when we call to Him.

As with a whirlwind, I scattered them among the distant nations, where they lived as strangers. Their land became so desolate that no one even traveled through it. They turned their pleasant land into a desert.” ~Zechariah 7:14
If--in His almighty dissatisfaction with us, God scatters us, then the opposite is also true: there is close connection, community and relationship when we are in connection with God. It's too good to be true!
If life is desolate and a desert when we are apart from God, it will be full and fruitful when we are united with Him. It's too good to be true!

It's all too good to be true, Lord. We are too inconsequential in Your eyes for this to be true, and yet, Your Word encourages us today. YOU encourage us today to be in community with You...and You will be in community with us.
IF we will listen/draw near/honor You....You will hear us, heal us, meet us.
- Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ~James 4:8
- Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. ~Isaiah 58:8
- If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ~2 Chronicles 7:14
Lord, we are almost afraid to believe it. It's too good to be true! But Your Word (and Your heart) promise it. Communing with You brings life in abundance.

Their land became so desolate that no one even traveled through it. They turned their pleasant land into a desert.” ~Zechariah 7:14
If not following You turns our pleasant land into a desert then the opposite is also true! It's too good to be true, and yet it is! Amen.
Lord, help us to get rid of our disobedience. Soften our hard hearts and open our closed ears to You, Father. We desire You today and we turn aside from all else. You are too good to be true. Turn our deserts into pleasant land today! Amen.
Blessings,
sarah
