The very last book of the Bible: Revelation.

We can admit (confess!) that we cannot explain much of what we read in its verses. We don't fully understand, and we can't fully comprehend Revelation...until the prophecies within it come to pass one day.

We don't understand exactly who the great prostitute is (Revelation 17:1).

We cannot explain who the woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns is (Revelation 17:1).

We can agree with John, the author of Revelation, when he writes in Revelation 17:5 that the name written on her forehead was a mystery:

babylon

the great the mother of prostitutes

and of the abominations of the earth.

We definitely don't understand what most of that means.

We are also probably not sure how to interpret or understand the beast on which the woman rides which has the seven heads and ten horns (Revelation 17:7).

We are not uneducated or ignorant, and yet we cannot fully understand this.

And even after the author gives explanations, saying that the seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. (10) They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while (Revelation 17:10)...

And even after the author further explains that the beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction. (12) “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. (13) They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast. ~Revelation 17:11-13

Even after clues, we may fail to understand much of the content within Revelation Chapter 17, but Verse 14...this we can understand.

They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”  ~Revelation 17:14

This part of Revelation Chapter 17 is easy for us to understand.

They will wage war against the Lamb...

We can understand that the great prostitute, the woman sitting on a scarlet beast, and the beast (itself), are not on our side, and they are not on God's side. They will wage war against the Lamb (Revelation 17:14).

And we are living in a world where some of that war is currently taking place. We can understand that part of Revelation 17.

But (Brothers and Sisters in Christ!), even if some things in Revelation are beyond our (current) understanding, we can stand on, and we can UNDERSTAND Revelation 17:14:

...but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”  ~Revelation 17:14

We can understand (and rejoice) that the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings.

Amen and amen! We can understand this!

But what (I feel) the Lord really wants us to understand today from Revelation 17 is: ..."and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

That's us...you and me.

We can't understand a lot of what we read in Revelation, but we should still read it.

And we can understand that we will be with Him, our Lord and Savior, the Lord of lords and King of kings. ("...and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”)

Understand this today, Friends: we are called.

We are chosen.

And we are faithful.

God wants us to understand that, even if we don't understand all the rest.

This calls for a mind with wisdom. ~Revelation 17:9

And the Lord gives us His wisdom.

We are with Him today via His Word, and we will be with Him tomorrow in victory.

Understand this today:

We are called. Live for the Lord today.

We are chosen. Our life is special and selected by God. Let's live like it.

We are faithful. Don't hide. Don't doubt. Don't blend-in. Let's be faithful today.

This we can understand.

Blessings,
