How long?

How long are we doing to do this?  Can we keep it up...this living for the Lord and praising Him with our lips and lives?  

How long?  (Will we keep keeping-after the Lord?)

Are we tired today?  

Well, buckle back up and let's not give up on God.  
How long?  
...as long as we live, and till our dying breath.  Let's keep praising God until then.  He sure deserves it.

I will praise the Lord as long as I live.  
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.  ~Psalm 146:1

How long?  Until we can't no more.  

That's how long we as God's sons and daughters ought to be fueled and encouraged to praise Him.

Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. 

(4) When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.  ~Psalm 146:3-4

You don't need me to explain or develop these verses.  First, it's truth as plain as day.  

And yet we look to powerful people.  We look to presidents and pastors. Doctors and forecasters. 

But God is so clear and direct about who we should look to each day for our hope: Him.

(5) But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.   ~Psalm 146:5

God gives us the directive and how it is effective.

 ...joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.   ~Psalm 146:5

I desire joy today don't you?

Then, not to humans, and not to systems, or money, or even health... But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God (Psalm 146:5).

He is where our answer lies.  God is the answer to every question that our mind, body, and soul asks.

But can we trust Him?  Is He capable?  Is He worthy?  Is taking the chance on our allegiance to Him worth it?

He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.  
He keeps every promise forever.   ~Psalm 146:6

That's a pretty dynamic track-record, which means following Him is a "yes" for me, how about you?  Forever may feel intimidating today.  But how about today?  Can we have the God of Israel as our helper today? 

Can we hope in the Lord our God today?

After all, He made heaven and earth.  He made the sea, and everything in them (Psalm 146:6).

And (Remember!  Trust it!) He keeps his promise forever.

You and I are part of that promise.   We are His children, and He sees when we are oppressed, and He will give us justice.

He gives justice to the oppressed...  ~Psalm 146:7

He sees the hunger of our soul and our hearts--and He will give us food.  Indeed He IS our food.

He gives...food to the hungry.  ~Psalm 146:7

The Lord frees the prisoners.

(8) The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

The Lord SEES what holds us captive, and the Lord FREES the prisoners.  That's been all of us at one time or another, and that may be us today.  

Let Him free you. 

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.   ~Psalm 146:5

Let's allow the Lord to open our eyes today--to Him and to all that He has for us.  He knows our burdens and what weighs us down. But He also knows His blessings over us and the power that comes from releasing our lives and hearts unto Him.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.  
The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.  ~Psalm 146:8

Can we trust Him and His timeline for us in our lives?  The answer lies within the pages of Scripture, which outlines our ancestry in the faith.   The answer is "yes" and many have said "yes" to Him before us...for generations.

The Lord will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord!  ~Psalm 146:10

(10) The Lord will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord!  ~Psalm 146:1-10

It’s never too late to turn to the Lord.   And--it’s never too late to turn back to the Lord.   Do we GET IT?   King Hezekiah GOT IT.   The people in his area (Israel) had not been following the Lord, and they had fallen away from the (God-ordained) traditions that the Lord had designed to connect His people with Himself,  like going to church (Temple), and like celebrating the festival of Passover.  So they sent a proclamation throughout all Israel...inviting everyone to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover of the  Lord , the God of Israel. The people had not been celebrating it in great numbers as required in the Law ( 2 Chronicles 30:5). Hezekiah  invited the people back to church!  But how to get the word out? Ever been around boys (of any age)?  They don't concern themselves with talking about   other  boys...they are not (usually) comparative that way, and would prefer to be competitive instead.  They are often contented with jokes and sounds, rather than defaming other guys or discussing their shortfalls. But...ever been around women ( of any age )?  For some sinful reason, our conversations often seem to p ick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick some more and talk, talk, talk about other women.  We  simmer into a boil as we digress and regress into unbecoming chatter about   other  women.   It's a terrible habit and yet girls in elementary school don't need to be taught how and even elderly church biddies can't quite fully withdraw.  We all still fall to condemning others  from time to time.  We have this sinful draw to make ourselves feel good by chirping back and forth and making someone   else   feel bad. The earth is the   Lord ’s, and everything in it.   The world and all its people belong to him.   (2)  For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas  and built it on the ocean depths.   ~Psalm 24:1-2 We belong to Him, but also…our world belongs to Him: and  everything in it .   Everything.   Every tree and flower, every person, every pelican, everything.
