I'm holding on tight to the harness bells of the horses today. 

Can you hear them?  Jingling brightly as the horse's trot...and tinkling lightly as the horses stand at attention and throw their heads back and "neigh!".  

Yes, we can hold on tight to the harness bells of the horses today (in our hearts), and we can have hope for tomorrow. 

What do I mean?

I mean--we can read the Bible and hold on to God's promises.  

We can encounter sin and sorrow, darkness and depravity today...but God's Word gives us hope because we will hear the holy harness bells of the horses tomorrow.

What do I mean?

Zechariah 14 tells it like it is...and it's ugly.  People are sinful.  People are bad.  People have turned away from God, and our world is bad.  

...But our God is good.

And we can have a light in our darkness today, because this (bad) is not how it will always be.

A day is coming when the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped.  And Jerusalem will be filled, safe at last, never again to be cursed and destroyed (Zechariah 14:9, 11).


So many people today do not live in understanding/appreciation/or reverence of God's holiness.  Even you and I do not live in as much response to God's holiness as we should.

We are called to share the truth and hope of God with others, but it can be hard to discern whether people don't realize God's holiness and the honor that He is due..or if they are (blatantly, willfully, sinfully) choosing to live outside of Him.

The answer to that question opens or closes our door to sharing the Gospel (the hope of Christ) with others.  Is their (heart's) door open?

The situation of many people's hearts today on earth is not optimal.  Many do not worship the King (Zechariah 14:17).

But tomorrow/one day/on that day (Zechariah 14:8), the question won't be unanswered or asked any longer, because everyone will worship the King, our King Jesus. 

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped.  ~Zechariah 14:9

Even though today people mock God and they mock us for following Him...on that day everyone and everything will exclaim the holiness of God, even the harness bells of the horses (Zechariah 14:20).

On that day even the harness bells of the horses will be inscribed with these words: Holy to the lord.  ~Zechariah 14:20  

If we listen with our faith...we can hear those harness bells proclaiming a day when God's holiness will be acknowledged by all.

The jingling of those bells is faint, but it's there.  It's right there in God's Word.  

We have to strain to hear the image and idea of a world in full of recognition of our Lord's divinity, sovereignty, and power...but the tinklings of those harness bells are already audible if we listen: Holy to the lord (Zechariah 14:20).

Those of us that read the Bible can prick our ears for that joyful jingling of harness bells and for the privilege we will have in ringing out in our own worship of the Lord, who will be king over all the earth. 

(9) And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped...
(20) On that day even the harness bells of the horses will be inscribed with these words: Holy to the lord.   ~Zechariah 14:9, 20

Let's hold on tight to the harness bells of the horses today.

Ever been around boys (of any age)?  They don't concern themselves with talking about   other  boys...they are not (usually) comparative that way, and would prefer to be competitive instead.  They are often contented with jokes and sounds, rather than defaming other guys or discussing their shortfalls. But...ever been around women ( of any age )?  For some sinful reason, our conversations often seem to p ick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick some more and talk, talk, talk about other women.  We  simmer into a boil as we digress and regress into unbecoming chatter about   other  women.   It's a terrible habit and yet girls in elementary school don't need to be taught how and even elderly church biddies can't quite fully withdraw.  We all still fall to condemning others  from time to time.  We have this sinful draw to make ourselves feel good by chirping back and forth and making someone   else   feel bad. The earth is the   Lord ’s, and everything in it.   The world and all its people belong to him.   (2)  For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas  and built it on the ocean depths.   ~Psalm 24:1-2 We belong to Him, but also…our world belongs to Him: and  everything in it .   Everything.   Every tree and flower, every person, every pelican, everything.
