I was at a beautiful event on Friday, filled with followers of Christ, and one of the main focuses was encouraging families to choose Christian education over public education.  There were wonderful testimonies and encouragements supporting the benefits/the securities/the opportunities for furthering the Kingdom of Christ in choosing Christian education.

And the very next day I attended a different event, filled with followers of Christ, and the main focus was equipping students to share and shine the Gospel in public schools.  There were wonderful testimonies and encouragements supporting the mission to go-and-make-disciples/the opportunities for salvation/and the call to furthering the Kingdom of Christ in choosing public education.

Which is the correct decision for a family?

That answer is: either.  (And homeschooling is an excellent educational-option as well, I just didn't attend an event focusing on the benefits of it this week.)

Only the Lord knows what plans are best for our kids, but we had better ask Him, by praying and seeking and laying the decision before Him.  And (one way or another, and in His time), the Lord will let us know.  

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”   ~Isaiah 30:21

No matter what our question is, our answer will be unique to each of us and tailored to God's unique plans for each of us...and for His glory.  But we will forfeit God's best plan if we make the decision without Him.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.  ~Proverbs 19:21

Decisions, decisions.  

There are always new ones to be made, and both the big and little ones matter: from where we attend church (and what they are teaching), to career, to spouse, to child-rearing, to everything...decisions, decisions--there are always new ones to be made.

The interesting thing about choices is that most of them are tailored to us and God's plan for us...if we will let the Lord lead us in making that decision.

Do we have a choice to make today?  Is a decision dangling in front of us, but we are not sure about the direction?

Ask Him.  Seek Him.  Wait upon the Lord.

  • He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  ~Psalm 46:10 
  • Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.  ~Psalm 27:14 
  • “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."  ~Matthew 7:7

Decisions, decisions.  

Forever is a long time, but when the Lord opened my heart and eyes for my husband (and my husband's heart and eyes for me), we knew it almost immediately, and we met and were married within the year.  We were both seeking God's will authentically and we just knew that (each other) were it.  God confirmed the decision and union in many ways (and He still confirms it twenty-two years later!).

  • You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  ~Jeremiah 29:13   
  • Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.  ~Genesis 2:24 
  • When I found him whom my soul loves; I held on to him and would not let him go...   ~Song of Solomon 3:4

Decisions, decisions.  
Do we have one today?

Don't force it.  Don't overthink it.  Stop strategizing and hypothesizing and controlling.  

Pray.  
Seek. 
Submit control and invite God in.

He does not hide His will from us, but He will not force His will upon us.  We will have to ask Him for it.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (6) in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  ~Proverbs 3:5-6

Decisions, decisions.  

How to know where to start?  And how to know what-to-do while we wait upon the Lord for His  direction?

The answer is: Seek His face/enjoy the Lord/Worship the Lord/Delight in the Lord.  
And while we are focused on Him, our answer (and His plan) will arise.

  • Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.  ~Psalm 37:4 
  • For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (12) Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. (13) You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  ~Jeremiah 29:11-13

From public schools, to Christian schools, to homeschooling--there are benefits and challenges to each, but (if we have children), God already has a plan for where and how they should attend school and be in service to Him while there. 

Just ask Him.

The same is true for whether or not we should buy that new ___, take another job, retire, go to ___, support ___, you-name-it...Decisions, decisions, they need to be made.

But--not alone.

We just need to ask.  Seek.  Listen.  Pray.  Wait.  Obey.

It’s never too late to turn to the Lord.   And--it’s never too late to turn back to the Lord.   Do we GET IT?   King Hezekiah GOT IT.   The people in his area (Israel) had not been following the Lord, and they had fallen away from the (God-ordained) traditions that the Lord had designed to connect His people with Himself,  like going to church (Temple), and like celebrating the festival of Passover.  So they sent a proclamation throughout all Israel...inviting everyone to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover of the  Lord , the God of Israel. Ever been around boys (of any age)?  They don't concern themselves with talking about   other  boys...they are not (usually) comparative that way, and would prefer to be competitive instead.  They are often contented with jokes and sounds, rather than defaming other guys or discussing their shortfalls. But...ever been around women ( of any age )?  For some sinful reason, our conversations often seem to p ick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick some more and talk, talk, talk about other women.  We  simmer into a boil as we digress and regress into unbecoming chatter about   other  women.   It's a terrible habit and yet girls in elementary school don't need to be taught how and even elderly church biddies can't quite fully withdraw.  We all still fall to condemning others  from time to time.  We have this sinful draw to make ourselves feel good by chirping back and forth and making someone   else   feel bad. The earth is the   Lord ’s, and everything in it.   The world and all its people belong to him.   (2)  For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas  and built it on the ocean depths.   ~Psalm 24:1-2 We belong to Him, but also…our world belongs to Him: and  everything in it .   Everything.   Every tree and flower, every person, every pelican, everything.
