We had a full moon (again) the other night.

Do you worry about our world, like I do? 

Politics, leaders, weather, disasters, diseases, dysfunction, wickedness, sin, moral decay...death.

We worry.  We fret.  Sometimes we can become anxious or even depressed about the decline of what we have known in our lifetime and where we are at today. 

 And sometimes the "tomorrow" of this world seems depressing.

But...we had a full moon again the other night.  The exact same way that we've had a full moon, every month since the very first day that the Lord hung the moon.

Remember that?

Go way back in the Bible to the very first Book and the very first Chapter: Genesis 1:

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, (15) and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. (16) God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. (17) God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, (18) to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. (19) And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.  ~Genesis 1:14-19  

It is necessary today to flip back to the beginning when God created the world, and specifically, when He created the moon (the lesser light to govern the night).  It's necessary because sometimes we forget, or the worries of this world cause us to forget.  To forget what?

That God is still in charge, and it's going to be okay.

With a few words (And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night...  ~Genesis 1:14) the Lord hung the moon and placed the sun...and ever since, we have had day followed by night.  God has never missed-a-day or mixed-up the order of the sun and moon, and every month we have a full moon again.

We can exhale slowly today.  Release and relax: God's got this.

Whatever or whoever has our heart and nerves in a chokehold has no power or authority to hold us there.  The Lord holds the Keys to today and to forever, and He has jurisdiction over whatever intimidates or infringes upon us today 

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you."  ~Jeremiah 32:17

What bothers/frightens/worries/angers us has bothered/frightened/worried/angered others before us, and these things will burden those that come after us.  

But...we had a full moon again the other night--the exact same way that we've had a full moon, every month since the very first evening that the Lord hung the moon.

And the Lord God who gave us the moon to govern the night also gave His Son Jesus Christ at the cross to pay for our sin and to provide us with hope and peace to govern our today.

We don't trust in any of those factors/factions/or faces that keep falling short: we trust in the name of the Lord our God, and He is as reliable as the sun rising and the moon shining.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.  ~Psalm 20:7  

It can be baffling to understand God's infatuation with us, but explainable or not: it remains the truth about Him:

  • When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, (4) what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?  ~Psalm 8:3-4
  • The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.  ~Jeremiah 31:3

The sun rises and sets...the moon waxes and wanes.  And the Lord our God still sits on His throne in authority over it all.

He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. (20) You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. (21) The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. (22) The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. (23) Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.  ~Psalm 104:19-23

Even when we're anxious, the Lord is at the helm.  
Even when we hurt, He is sovereign. 
Even when we fear or worry that the world can't last as it is...it does, and we have another full moon.

Psalm 121
(1) I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
(2) My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 
(3) He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; 
(4) indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
 (5) The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 
(6) the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 
(7) The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; 
(8) the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.  ~Psalm 121:1-8

When we fear that we can't hold on or that we might get pulled under...look up.  

There is fresh proof every month as the full moon rises that God's control reaches beyond our understanding and into the Heavens. 

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 
(2) Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 
(3) They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 
(4) Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.  ~Psalm 19:1-4

It’s never too late to turn to the Lord.   And--it’s never too late to turn back to the Lord.   Do we GET IT?   King Hezekiah GOT IT.   The people in his area (Israel) had not been following the Lord, and they had fallen away from the (God-ordained) traditions that the Lord had designed to connect His people with Himself,  like going to church (Temple), and like celebrating the festival of Passover.  So they sent a proclamation throughout all Israel...inviting everyone to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover of the  Lord , the God of Israel. The people had not been celebrating it in great numbers as required in the Law ( 2 Chronicles 30:5). Hezekiah  invited the people back to church!  But how to get the word out? Ever been around boys (of any age)?  They don't concern themselves with talking about   other  boys...they are not (usually) comparative that way, and would prefer to be competitive instead.  They are often contented with jokes and sounds, rather than defaming other guys or discussing their shortfalls. But...ever been around women ( of any age )?  For some sinful reason, our conversations often seem to p ick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick some more and talk, talk, talk about other women.  We  simmer into a boil as we digress and regress into unbecoming chatter about   other  women.   It's a terrible habit and yet girls in elementary school don't need to be taught how and even elderly church biddies can't quite fully withdraw.  We all still fall to condemning others  from time to time.  We have this sinful draw to make ourselves feel good by chirping back and forth and making someone   else   feel bad. The earth is the   Lord ’s, and everything in it.   The world and all its people belong to him.   (2)  For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas  and built it on the ocean depths.   ~Psalm 24:1-2 We belong to Him, but also…our world belongs to Him: and  everything in it .   Everything.   Every tree and flower, every person, every pelican, everything. How are we responding to that glorious Truth today?   Can we praise Him today?  Can we acknowledge and absorb (and respond!) to the awesome Truth that we belong to Him :  the Creator of all things, and our Creator?   He laid the earth’s foundation ...and (even)  the earth  knows that it belongs to him ...
