What should we do today...and how?
Do we ever wake up wondering this?
...A whole twenty-four hours are in front of us---how will we spend it?
How will we fill it? How will we redeem it?
How will we fill it? How will we redeem it?
~~~
God's got an idea for what-we-should-do today.
Scratch that...God's got a plan for us and what-we-should-do today.
Scratch that...God's got a plan for us and what-we-should-do today.
He gives us our goal...To praise Him.
Psalm 150
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!(2) Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!(3) Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp!(4) Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!(5) Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.(6) Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!Praise the Lord! ~Psalm 150:1-6
We have a myriad of choices in how to spend our day today, and in Psalm 150, God gives us His directive for our day: praise him.
And we can praise the Lord in any number of ways, but today God's Word invokes music and sound into our worship of Him.
We can take our pick:
ram's horn,
lyre,
harp,
tambourine,
strings,
flutes,
cymbals...
The making of music and melodies and praise with these instruments is a special gift to God.
Do we have talent with any of these (or related) instruments?
Could we explore praising the Lord with any of these instruments, in the creative name of praising him?
And...if we are not gifted in instrumental-play...then Psalm 150 gives us a final praise-avenue that everyone and everything can bless the Lord with:
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! (Psalm 150:6).
If we are breathing today, we can be praising the Lord(!) today.
Let's praise the Lord today: with instruments...with our breath...let's praise him period. If we missed all of the rest of God's point and guideline for today, then He sums up Psalm 150 in a nutshell with the very last phrase/command/exaltation/proclamation of the Psalm: Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord! ~Psalm 150:6
Praise him---yes. Praise him in his sanctuary/in his mighty heaven/for his mighty works...
Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn/with the lyre/harp/tambourine and dancing...
Praise him with strings/flutes/with a clash of cymbals and with loud clanging cymbals.
(6) Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! (Psalm 150:6).
Praise him---yes.
The main point.
What should we do today...and how? ---The Bible (Psalm 150) ordains our praise of our Lord. The how is up to us, and God wraps-up this Psalm by boiling it all down for us: however/whereever/with-whatever-sound-we-can-offer: Praise the Lord today (Psalm 150:6).
