How long has it been?

~~~
Our kids were discussing a science formula the other day: Avogadro's law.  Have we ever heard of it?
They learned of Avogadro's law in ninth or tenth grade Chemistry, and it states that equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, contain the exact same number of molecules.
How long has it been since we learned and discussed science formulas?
Amongst his other university courses, our college freshman son is knee-deep in an Honor's Humanities class that requires him to read literary and philosophical classics such as Thomas Hobbes: Leviathan, John Locke's: Two Treatise's of Government, and Plato's: Republic.  (For example, The Republic is a Socratic dialogue written by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato around 375 BC that investigates the nature of justice, the ideal state, and the well-ordered human soul. ~source:AI)
Such "classic" books excite me, but have served as exhausting to our son in his first semester...however--he is reading them!
How long has it been since we read a classical book of philosophy or reasoning?
The Bible lays before us today.
How long has it been since we've opened it...from the beginning?
How long since we've looked at the first pages of the Bible and dug in.  How long since we've read with intention and for comprehension about The Creation of the World?
Maybe it's been awhile since we learned scientific formulas...
Perhaps we haven't cracked a philosophical treatise in quite some time...
But--will those works really matter in the long-run of our lives and souls?
Formulas and philosophies will not save our soul or grant us hope and peace in this world or the next.
But our Father who art in Heaven will.
Our God who created the world also created us, and learning about His creativity and sovereignty and authority WILL change our lives.
Perhaps it already has.
But how long since we read about how He started it all?
If you are like me--it's been too long.  Let's go back to the beginning.
Genesis 1
(1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(2) Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
(3) And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
(4) God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
(5) God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
(6) And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.”
(7) So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it.
And it was so.
(8) God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
(9) And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.”
And it was so.
(10) God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
(11)Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”
And it was so.
(12) The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
(13) And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.  ~Genesis 1:1-13
How long has it been?  ...since we read about the Beginning of all things when God created all things?
Well--now it hasn't been long at all.  We got back to the beginning today, and now.
God made the truth of Avogadro's law true when He created molecules and gases.  The Lord granted reasoning and philosophical cognitive skills to men and women such as Plato and Socrates.
But we needn't wonder which came first: the chicken or the egg.
God came first.  His creation.  His intention.  His sovereignty.  And His dominion over all of it and over all of us.
How long has it been since we read the first pages of the Bible?  We never want to get too far removed:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  ~Genesis 1:1
