The truth is, the sales-equation has not been working out in our favor at work lately. We are making the phonecalls, and completing the sales communication cycles...and our prospectives-funnel is larger than it's been in years. Yes, our team is definitely putting the work in, but for the last couple months...sales just haven't been happening, and it is not for a lack of effort, teamwork...or prayer.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. (8) “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. ~Matthew 6:7-8
He already knows, Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Whatever it is that we can't fix today--He knows all about it.
...for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. ~Matthew 6:8
But God's holiness-equation requires that we remember that He is our Lord, and thus, He waits for us to submit ourselves and our needs to Him. We can pray to God in many ways, but if we need direction on how to lay-it-down before our Lord, He patterns our prayer-steps specifically in the Bible:
(9) In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
(10) Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
(11) Give us this day our daily bread.
(12) And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
(13) And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. ~Matthew 6:9-15
Something might have struck you when you read these verses.
"Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11) struck me when I read these verses and prayed for provision.
We want to worry and stress (and freak out) about all of the responsibilities and unknowns of "tomorrow", but God reminds us to focus-on and ask Him for "today". And we can trust Him for today.
Give us this day our daily bread. ~Matthew 6:11
Just today. One day at a time...that's how God wants us to take life, and He wants us to take each day with Him.
Let's ask Him for our daily bread, and let's trust Him that He will give it.
The truth is, I have been asking the Lord for provision...for quite a while and in earnest. But I have not been asking Him for (just) this day: my mind, my worries...my expectations are always more compounded than this day.
But---what does God say?
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (10) Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. (11) Give us this day our daily bread. ~Matthew 6:9-11
God reminds us to focus-on and ask-Him-for "today"...and we can trust Him for provision (in every sense of the definition) today.
The concept is simple, and yet complex all at once, especially when I've been focused on the "big picture" so much that it hadn't occurred to me to stay present and stay prayerful for this day.
We prayed at work today for God to give us this day our daily bread...and do you know what?
Which is all we need.
We just needed to be reminded of that.
~~~
If we have been praying a lot for something big...allow the Bible to trim our timeline down to today.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~Matthew 6:34
Just today.
Lord, Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). Amen.
Blessings,
sarah
